Performance Specifications
The M5 chip represents a significant shift by integrating AI-specific hardware directly into the GPU, moving beyond just the Neural Engine.

Processor (M5 Chip): 10-core CPU featuring 4 “super” performance cores and 6 efficiency cores. It offers roughly 15% faster multithreaded performance than the M4.

Graphics (GPU): 10-core GPU (standard on the 15-inch model) featuring a new Neural Accelerator in every core. This allows for up to 4x faster AI performance than the M4 and 9.5x faster than the M1.

Unified Memory: Starts at 16GB (configurable to 24GB or 32GB). The memory bandwidth has been increased to 153GB/s, a 28% jump over the previous generation.

Storage: The base storage has doubled to 512GB SSD. For the first time, the Air is configurable up to 4TB. The new SSD architecture is roughly 2x faster in read/write speeds than the M4 Air.
